Certified Practitioners

If you are interested in becoming a Superior Energy Performance Certified Practitioner, please sign up to receive more information.

Certified Practitioners will provide assistance to facilities in assessing energy efficiency opportunities in various types of energy systems and conforming to the requirements of the ISO 50001 energy management system plus additional Superior Energy Performancecm requirements. A company or facility may use the energy management standard or system assessment standards on their own without engaging a Certified Practitioner. However, using a qualified individual adds a level of assurance for the facility that the standards will be properly applied.

Provide Assistance

Two different types of ANSI-accredited Certified Practitioners will support plants in assessing energy efficiency opportunities:

  • Certified Practitioners in Energy Management Systems will assist facilities in implementing the ISO 50001 energy management standard.
  • Certified Practitioners in [Type] Systems* will assist facilities in conducting energy system-specific assessments and establishing procedures for continuously improving energy efficiency of that system. The assessments will be conducted in accordance with the system assessment standards: compressed air, process heating, pumping, and steam.

Provide Third-Party Verification

ANSI-accredited certified SEP Lead Auditors and Performance Verifiers will serve as third-party auditors to verify that the plant has met the Superior Energy Performance requirements.

  • SEP Lead Auditors will assess a manufacturing plant's management system conformance to ISO 50001 and additional SEP requirements.
  • SEP Performance Verifiers will assess a manufacturing plant's conformance to the (1) measurement and verification protocols and (2) energy performance improvement levels defined by the SEP program.

It is estimated that training for Certified Energy Management System Practitioner will be offered in the fall of 2011. Training for the SEP Performance Verifiers and Certified Practitioners in [Type] Systems will follow. Candidates will be subject to a rigorous qualification exam and, once certified, periodic professional enrichment requirements.

The Certified Practitioner training and credentialing programs are under development. Updates will be posted on this page once more information is available.

* Use of Certified Practitioners in [Type] Practitioners and the system assessment standards is optional and not required for participation in Superior Energy Performance.
